What it is

Jujutsu Kaisen is MAPPA’s TV anime about Yuji Itadori, who is physically gifted and otherwise ordinary until the sorcerer Satoru Gojo brings him to Tokyo Jujutsu High School, an organization that fights curses.13

Crunchyroll has three TV seasons of the series and also carries the film Jujutsu Kaisen 0.3 Season 3, The Culling Game, premiered on January 8, 2026 with its first two episodes, numbered 48 and 49 because the count continues from the earlier seasons.15

Why it matters now

The Season 3 finale premiered in Japan on March 26, 2026, and the official series account announced the same day that Season 4 was in production, continuing with “The Culling Game Part 2.”2

On June 19, 2026, MAPPA showed a teaser trailer at its 15th anniversary lineup reveal, and Crunchyroll reported that the series is still in production with a new director.34 Takeru Sato directs Season 4 while Shota Goshozono moves up to chief director. Hiroshi Seko continues the series composition, and Yosuke Yajima and Hiromi Niwa return on character design, joined by Sota Yamazaki.3

As of October 13, 2026 the sources we checked give no premiere date for Season 4.3

Who it is for

It is for people who like a shonen series that builds across several seasons. Season 3 is the first part of the Culling Game and Season 4 continues the same arc as the second,2 so the story is not finished where Season 3 stops. If an open ending bothers you, you may prefer to start Season 3 closer to Season 4.

Do not begin at Season 3. Its episode numbers start at 48, which tells you how much comes before it.5 If you are returning after a long break, Crunchyroll News has published episode recaps for Season 3 and a feature titled “JUJUTSU KAISEN’s Culling Game, Explained.”5

What makes it different

Crunchyroll’s Season 3 premiere covered North America, Central and South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, CIS, India and Southeast Asia, with new episodes weekly on Thursdays at 8:30 a.m. PT from January 15, 2026.1 The studio kept a steady core team into Season 3. Shota Goshozono directed it, with Hiroshi Seko on series composition and Yosuke Yajima and Hiromi Niwa on character design, all returning from the second season.2

For Season 4 the change is at the top: Sato takes over directing and Goshozono becomes chief director.3 The teaser is brief and confirms little beyond the fact that production is under way.3

The one thing to watch for

Watch the wait. A new director, a teaser and no date mean the release could be some way off, and we are not going to guess. Treat any specific date you see as unconfirmed until MAPPA or Crunchyroll posts it.3

One honest gap: we could not confirm an official episode count for Season 3 or the length of Season 4 from the sources we read, so we are not stating either.

Opinion

Our take

Our take: worth catching up on now if you have the weekends, and worth holding off on Season 3 if open endings bother you.

Time well spent: there are three seasons and a film before the Culling Game, and no date for what comes next. That is a lot of hours without a finish line in sight. A sensible order is the first season, the film, the second season, then the third.

Jujutsu Kaisen is a series people talk about while it airs. If you catch up before Season 4, you are in the conversation from the first episode. Spoilers travel fast, so keep them out of the title on the forum.

For anyone who makes things, it is a useful case study in sustaining one long arc across several seasons and a change of director.

Hype around a teaser is a feeling. The verdict comes from watching how Season 4 handles a new director and a story that has to land.

Credit to Crunchyroll for saying plainly that no release date, cast or staff had been announced when Season 4 was first confirmed, instead of letting a trailer imply one.2
